Calendar software/programs
Sep 3 2008, 2:36 PM EDT
Our secretary is currently using Calendar Creator Deluxe 2005 and wants to continue using it or something like it because she can do "pretty stuff" with it (graphics, etc). We would like a program that can do this and can also be easily uploaded to our website and easily updated regularly. Is there such a program out there that can do both well?

Google calendar works well, it's free and an integrate with various programs (Outlook and others). It's also possible to embed the calendar on a different website (calendar.google.com)

I agree with savatskid. We use Google Calendar for both the church and school, separate event calendars. Sally gave me a tip on the integration of Google calendar and Mozilla Thunderbird (Mail and Calendar) or Mozilla Sunbird (Calendar). We use Sunbird as our main user interface with Google calendar as the data entry is easier and makes a nicer printout. The main thing about the Mozilla printout is that the events are word wrapped. Google Calendar, nor Outlook does not provide word wrapping capabilities (which is pretty silly!) If your church uses Outlook for all calendar events, then it is an easy interface with Google Calendar as wellAnyway, I like the Google calendar as it is easily embedded in our website and using the Mozilla product or Outlook, makes for easy data entry and instant update to your website Dan Smith Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and School Des Moines, WA www.htlc-wa.org Do you find this valuable? |

Thanks for the tips guys. We actually have gone to using Webcalendar (check it out on our website: http://www.stpaulsonalaska.org/calendar/month.php?cat_id=1). Our church/school secretary enters the data into outlook and then exports to a CSV file and imports that file to the public site.Blessings on your celebration of our Savior's resurrection! Have to admit, that is a pretty calendar. How does it look when it is either printed to a printer or PDF file, as if your going to put it into a newsletter?-Have a blessed Easter, Dan Smith Do you find this valuable? |

"Have to admit, that is a pretty calendar. How does it look when it is either printed to a printer or PDF file, as if your going to put it into a newsletter? We don't print the online calendar--we only upload to it for web viewing. For our church and school newsletter, we use WinCalendar, http://www.wincalendar.com/, for the modest price of $25. It is an addon for Microsoft Word/Excel. All our calendar "data" goes into an Outlook calendar. We created a separate Outlook profile for Church and a separate one for School. When the secretary wants to input church calendar data she selects the "church" profile to log into Outlook. She then uses that profile to upload the calendar to the website AND to import it into Word using WinCalendar to create a printable calendar for the church and school newsletter. I also like the look of your calendar. We're looking at re-doing our web site for Living Word in Waukesha, WI. Our calendar is clunky and hard to read (http://my.calendars.net/lww2/). Is Webcalendar free or do you have to pay for it?Also, thanks for the info on WinCalendar - I might use that for creating an easy calendar to send out as an attachment to missionaries or for matching presenters' schedules (I work for WELS Synod in Missions and schedule a lot of presentations). WebCalendar is free, I'm almost sure. Our webmaster (Chris Muller, St. Paul's member) found it. It is available from k5n.us here: http://www.k5n.us/webcalendar.php?topic=Download. If you want info/help on setting it up on a website, I would refer you to Chris at mullman71@gmail.com. Let him know I told you to get ahold of him. We are planning soon to switch our public website over to Drupal as the base for site management. Chris is fast becoming a Drupal expert as he uses it in his work at CenturyTel and has implemented it for our Member Only Website (members create an account and use a password to login to view private information).Serving Jesus with you, Dan Schoeffel Do you find this valuable? |
